Today is our first big snow in Wichita and to celebrate I wanted to make a bad pun about it, so I apologize REMEMBER:
- Check on your elderly neighbors and loved ones. It’s difficult to get around in these conditions, so make sure they have food and the things they need to “weather the weather” (yep, I did it again). Home Buddy can provide well being checks, so if you can’t call, let us.
- Falls are especially dangerous in snow and ice. Not only are falls more prevalent, but the consequences can lead to hypothermia. Make sure they have a help button or a cell phone in case of emergencies.
- We encourage our Home Buddy customers to push their help button and let us know if they are going outside to check the mail in this weather. We will stay on the line and wait for them to return - if they’re not back in a reasonable time, we will contact someone to check on them. Ask your loved ones to notify you if they plan on being outside so you can make sure they make it back inside ok.
- Better yet, volunteer to clear their walk-way and help them with their errands so they don’t have to go outside.
If you have any other tips, we would love to hear them. Be safe!
